A note about my blog...

First, thanks to a reference to my blog made by Connie Rossini from Contemplative Homeschool and word of mouth, there's been people inquiring about subscribing to the blog. (Please check out her blog post for good resources on raising contemplative families). I recently set up a subscribe option for those who wish to put in their email and receive the latest posts by email. So if you'd like to subscribe, I have set that up. Just a word of warning: I know very little about technology and the blogging world; this is all rather new to me. Please bear with me as I try to figure out exactly how all of this works!

My blog also has an RSS button on the top right, which, if you click, you can receive my blog updates via your RSS feed app (like Feedly) on your electronic device (phone/tablet/etc...). Again, bear with me here and please let me know if something is not working properly otherwise it might go unaddressed because of my technology illiteracy. I am on Facebook. If you search "Bill N Jessica Fahy" you may find me there (we have a family account). Again, the mission of our Facebook page is the same as this blog's purpose.

Second, I want to express the intention of my blog. My blog has evolved in time. At first, it was generally just anything Catholic; but I've deleted some posts from the past and shifted the focus because the Lord did a work in my heart over the past year and has lead me in a different direction. Now the focus of the blog is growing in union with God and cultivating our spiritual lives, specifically in our children. I'll sometimes share things our family does just as an "online journal" type of thing; sometimes I'll post about the spiritual life and how to improve our prayer, grow in virtue, and the like; and other times I'll write about what I'm learning in regards to my vocation or cultivating the spiritual life of little children (because mine are all little!). I always try to reference the books and provide links to the things I'm sharing so that you may go to them for further information.

It's been a long and growing desire of mine to just get the conversation out there among parents about how to cultivate the spiritual lives of our children and share the ways we go about doing this. For example, "How do I teach my child how to pray more deeply?" Or, "What does praying with a bunch of little children really look like in a family?" Or, "How can I cultivate the virtue of (fill-in-the-blank)" For myself personally, I have read quite a few Catholic parenting books and blogs (and have asked quite a few other mothers various questions in these regards!) and whenever I hear or read something that gives a concrete example of how they go about teaching their child something about our Lord and the Faith, it seems to give me a better picture and helps me out in discerning how to go about teaching them a, b, or c. It is my hope that in whatever I post, others may comment and share what they do at home as well for the sake of building up His Kingdom, the Church, starting first within the domestic church - our families.

As we go about parenting our children toward heaven, I find that nothing will suffice but an interior disposition of prostration before our Lord, knowing that in our inadequacy and incompetency, without Him, we can do nothing. And even as we strive and struggle to pray and do everything the best we can, it will never guarantee that our children will turn out as saints and be exempt from all struggles with sin and the flesh. We can only prayerfully and sacrifically do our best while letting the Holy Spirit work within our children. The good we may do is from the Lord alone; we are merely His instruments, or, as Blessed Mother Teresa often said, "a pencil in God's Hand." Our children, in the end, have their own free will; we hope that they will always have an open heart to the Lord and His Will and will use their own free will in accord with the Truth.

Ok, that's all for now! Have a blessed Sunday!
